Prof. Andreas Wehrenfennig
Andreas Wehrenfennig was born in Freising and received harp lessons from Ranghild Kopp-Mues from the age of seven.
He began his studies with Germaine Lorenzini in Lyon in 1991. He studied under Prof. Helga Storck at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich from 1994 to 1998, where he also completed his teaching Diplom. He then complemented his studies by attending classes with Prof. Edward Witsenburg at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, where he graduated with distinction.
Already during his studies in Munich, Andreas Wehrenfennig was appointed solo harpist in the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic Orchestra. He moved from there to the Staatskapelle Halle in 2000.
Together with the orchestra, he has taken part in various concert tours at home and abroad, and several CD and radio recordings have been produced. In the Händelfestspielorchester, an ensemble belonging to the Staatskapelle Halle that plays historic instruments from the Baroque Era, he is responsible for continuo and soloist tasks. Andreas Wehrenfennig regularly performs soloist concerts together with the Staatskapelle Halle and other renowned orchestras.
Chamber music is an important component of his artistic work. In addition to traditional arrangements with flute and viola, his repertoire is also enriched by programmes with e.g. organ, horn or a brass quintet. His work in this field comes together in the Duo Bellini oboe / cor anglais with harp.
Andreas Wehrenfennig is particularly active in the field of contemporary music. Apart from premiering numerous works dedicated to the Duo Bellini, he is also a regular guest in the series musica nova with the ensemble avantgarde in Leipzig’s Gewandhaus and a soloist at the IMPULS-Festival for Contemporary Music in Sachsen-Anhalt.
Andreas Wehrenfennig commenced his teaching career at the Singing and Music School Freising in 1993. He has taught at the Georg Friedrich Händel Conservatory in Halle since 2001, several of his pupils have received distinctions at the German national music competition “Jugend musiziert”. He had lecturing contracts with the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar. Andreas Wehrenfennig has held a harp class at hmt Rostock since October 2010. He was awarded an honorary professorship for his services to music in October 2016.
