Masterclass Piano Matthias Kirschnereit

Piano | Matthias Kirschnereit

Matthias Kirschnereit is one of the leading German pianists of his generation. His new recording of all of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's piano concertos with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra for the Mozart Year 2006 was received enthusiastically all over the world. The Neue Zürcher Zeitung headlined: “The Discovery of the Mozart Year is Matthias Kirschnereit”.

Earlier concert invitations took Matthias Kirschnereit to renowned international orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Residentie Orkest Den Haag, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the radio symphony orchestras in Stuttgart and Leipzig, Sinfonia Vorsaovia, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra Budapest, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Ireland, the Bruckner Orchester Linz, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, and Festival Strings Lucerne. A celebrated highlight of 2003 was the performance of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under Yuri Temirkanov at a concert to celebrate the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg. The intensive collaboration with Sandor Végh and Camerata Academic Salzburg had a lasting impact, in particular on his understanding of Mozart.

Matthias Kirschnereit was born in Westfalen and grew up in the Namibian desert. He studied at the Detmold University of Music with Renate Kretschmar-Fischer; his long-term collaboration with Claudio Arrau, Bruno Leonardo Gelber, Oleg Maisenberg, and Murray Perahia profoundly influenced his play. He was a prize-winner at the Deutsche Musikwettbewerb, at the International Géza Anda Competition and at the Sydney International Piano Competition.

Matthias Kirschnereit was appointed professor at hmt Rostock in 1997. Many of his students have been prize-winners at international competitions. He gives masterclasses all over the world. In Germany, he is committed to Lars Vogt’s youth project “Rhapsody in School”.
