Semester and tuition fees

The Rostock University for Music and Drama does not charge any general tuition fees. No fees are charged for undergraduate courses or graduated courses until the students obtain their second professional qualifications.

The semester fee of € 285,40 has to be paid for every semester. It includes the costs for public transport, the student welfare service and the student council. It has to be transferred on the following account:

According to §2 No 1 of the statue of University fees, taking part in further education studies is chargeable. 

Examinations

The entrance and final examinations take place at the end of the lecture period. Exceptions may be agreed.

The deadline for the interim and final examinations ends

  • on 15 October for the winter semester
  • on 15 April for the summer semester

but at least 8 weeks before the examination date.

The application for leave of absence or for extending studies (exception: Leave of absence due to an internship) has to be proposed until

  • 1 August for the winter semester
  • 1 March for the summer semester
University Information Day

The next University Information Day (HIT) will take place on April 6, 2024. We will present our degree programs, provide information about admission requirements and student life, and offer tours of the building.
The event overview and registration will be available from February 2024.

In addition, the Deutsche Tonkünstlerverband M-V offers an intensive music theory course to prepare for the aptitude tests for German music colleges.
Date: Saturday, March 15th, 2025, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 3 - 6 p.m., and Sunday, March 16th, 2025, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Fee: 40,00 €
Registration deadline: 28 February 2025

Practice times end one hour before the building closes.
Please check the notices during the lecture-free period.

Student accommodation

The student welfare service runs ten halls of residence in the Hanseatic city of Rostock, offering accommodation for 2,200 students. They are within easy reach of the city centre by bike or public transport. Furnished rooms are available for rent from about € 140 a month. All student rooms have internet access.
Please note that the principle to be applies is first come, first serve. Make sure that you propose for an accommodation as soon as you receive your letter of acception.

Keep fit!

As a student of the hmt you can take part in the courses of the University sports of the Rostock University. They offer a wide range of courses, including team sports like football, volleyball, handball and hockey, but also martial arts, horseback riding, sailing, stand-up paddling, yoga, pilates and many more.  

Student Advisory Service

Study advisory service for students at the Department of Music
Students on the Bachelor’s course at the Music Department are counselled and supervised by their main subject teacher. They will also supported and advised by the head of the Department of Music and by the Pro-Rector for study, research and teaching.

Study advisory service for students at the Department of Drama
Students at the Department of Drama are supported by a personal mentor from the first day on of their education.
The personal mentor helps with all problems of the university life and gives support with the artistic and pedagogical tasks. The personal mentor informs you in individual and group talks about your performance level and gives advice how to organize your studies more effective. 
Your personal mentor will also inform you about any organizational issues and is accompanying you until your final exams. 

Study advisory service for students of Music Science, Music Pedagogy and School Music
Students who study music as a subject of their Bachelor of Education are supervised by their main subject teachers. If there are any questions regarding general problems with the organization of their studies and exams, they are counselled by the teachers of heir subjects.

International Office

The International Student Office is a college facility set up to assist foreign students. We know about the struggles international students are dealing with and can therefore give you the best possible help.

We are happy to help with any questions or problems you may have:
