Master's Course in Chamber Music, Major Ensemble Playing
Programme details
The Chamber Music Master's programme is an opportunity for existing ensembles to deepen their collective knowledge and experience in ensemble playing. Studying at the hmt Rostock means not only receiving lessons from designated members of the teaching staff, but also benefiting from a wide range of collaborations between the hmt and concert organisers in Rostock and the surrounding area.
The course is designed for excellent students with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree who wish to specialise in chamber music. They apply as an ensemble (each member shall submit a separate application).
The artistic core module focuses on ensemble playing. An individual focus is possible within the framework of the focus module: Here, students choose chamber music projects/modules/classes based on their career goals.
The Applied Music Theory and Musicology module is based on the focus of the course of study. This applies to theoretical areas such as analysis and interpretation as well as to practical exercises in listening and intonation training.
Overall, the course of study is structured in such a way that, on the one hand, all necessary fields of study are taken into account, but more space is given to the time-consuming core module in the 3rd and 4th semesters.

Résumé of the Ariel Quartet: "It was a great pleasure for us to be guests at the hmt Rostock. The wonderful atmosphere of the concert evening, set in the beautifully resonant and evocative chamber music hall, the inspiring work with enthusiastic and exceptionally talented students, and the lively discussions during this mini-residency have left us personally and musically enriched. The memories of our visit will stay with us for a long time to come."
