Integrative band ‘Die Coole Meute’ at the hmt Rostock
In the inclusive band ‘Die Coole Meute’, which has existed since 2017, nine young people with disabilities aged 14-32 currently make music together with nine students of music teaching at the hmt Rostock.
The young people, who have very different disabilities, enjoy making music immensely. They gain self-confidence and feel secure in their musical ensemble and thus a part of society. This is important to all members of the Cool Pack. Because every human life is equally valuable, without distinction.
The band mainly plays popular songs that relate to the lives of young people. The arrangements are created by the students, who rehearse the songs themselves with the band and also guide them during performances.
The band works in a rotating system in which different instruments are played by the young people and the students as often as possible. They alternate between piano, guitar, bass guitar, percussion and vocals. The band mainly works in tandems, i.e. pairs of young people and students are formed, which also change during rehearsals.
Our work also leads to smaller concerts and the now traditional final concert of each summer semester at the end of June in the hmt foyer. However, the Coole Meute is not a concert or performance band.
New members are always welcome in the band.
