The university choir at hmt Rostock is made up of students from various degree courses who come to the ensemble with different levels of previous experience in choral singing. The choir is formed at the beginning of each semester and develops a concert program during the course of the semester.

In the weekly rehearsals, the students are given the opportunity to expand their experience in choral singing and ensemble music-making. In order to gain as much exposure to choral music as possible, the choir's repertoire is stylistically diverse and includes a cappella choral music as well as works with instrumental accompaniment and choral symphonies. Matthias Mensching has directed the choir since April 2021.
